Friedrich Nietzsche was a 19th century German philosopher, often considered the father of post-modernism. His works challenged some of the most central axioms of western philosophy, from epistemology and metaphysics to ethics. My relationship with Nietzsche mirrors the inconsistency inherent in his work – beginning with a wildfire of passion, before turning into something far more sober, critical and perhaps even hostile. But, some element endures as a centrifugal force: an ethos for life that is vital, affirming and demanding.
